Mayfly Coffee
Mayfly Coffee is our go-to coffee spot, founded by Signal Mountain resident and outdoor enthusiast, Atley Davidson.
Atley’s passion for the outdoors inspired him to name menu items after our local trails. The coffee shop name itself pays tribute to his love of fly fishing.
Atley grew up watching his father roast coffee as a hobby. As an adult, he continued the family tradition, roasting coffee for family and friends. When friends suggested he sell his freshly roasted coffee at the local Signal Mountain farmer’s market, the business was born.
Since then, Mayfly has served our community as a gathering place and proud supporter of our schools. Every year, Mayfly designates a specific Saturday to donate 20% of its proceeds to the Mountain Education Foundation.
The name Mayfly represents us - it represents what we want the brand to stand for - taking time off, enjoying nature. No matter where you live on Signal, outside your backdoor is nature. There are endless things to do, whether hiking or exploring waterfalls, road cycling or climbing. All those things are up here.

Mayfly has indoor and outdoor seating, displays the work of local Signal Mountain artists, and is open every morning, 7 days a week.

Pruetts Cafe
Pruett’s is not only our local grocery store, but also a community hub and cafe. Featuring a hot bar with a rotating menu of seasonal entrees and sides, the cafe is open each day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Made-to-order brick oven pizzas and sandwiches are available after 11am.
The beverage counter offers specialty lattes and smoothies, and the bakery provides freshly baked bread and pastries daily. A large selection of ready-made items is available next to the artisan cheese and charcuterie counter.
Just outside, a large patio serves as a favorite gathering spot. You’re almost bound to run into someone you know. Local musicians frequently play live music, and college football is aired on Saturdays in the Fall. A masonry, stone fire place with charred wood siding creates a cozy atmosphere, and picnic tables and fenced in lawn area provide additional seating and space for children to play.

The Bread Basket
Marie Hyde was first introduced to the art of baking sourdough when she moved to Signal Mountain in the 1980’s. Her neighbor walked across the field with a house warming gift of freshly made bread. Marie’s children loved it, so a few days later, the neighbor gave them some of the sourdough starter, along with a hand-written recipe.
Because the recipe yielded three loaves at a time, Marie experimented with one of the loaves by adding fresh apples from the Fairmount Apple Orchard. After the orchard owner tasted the delicious cinnamon-apple bread, he invited her to sell it in “bread baskets” displayed on bales of hay.
The Hydes then began to make and sell bread as a family. They opened a small shop in 1989 and moved to their current location near the apple orchard in 1993.
As Signal Mountain has grown, so has the tradition of giving a Bread Basket house warming gift. Our hometown bakery now has five locations and ships gift baskets nationwide. They have been featured on the Food Network and in Southern Living Magazine.
The Bread Basket’s current menu includes a large selection of breads, cakes, muffins and cookies. The sweet, southern sourdough is still a favorite, and the Hydes still use the original sourdough starter that started it all.
